Résumé. – L’importance du mode de préparation des genitalia mâles est illustrée par le cas du genre Aslauga, au sein duquel l’existence de coremata est mise en évidence pour la première fois.

The usual way of preparing male genitalia is to heat the tip of the abdomen in concentrated potassium hydroxide (KOH), and discard everything apart from the genitalia proper.

I have done thousands of dissections this way, but have gradually come to realize that it can result in considerable loss of information. Better late than ever, this note is intended to illustrate the effects of this, using the example of Aslauga (African Lycaenidae, subfamily Liphyrinae), careful dissection of which has revealed the existence of coremata, unnoticed by previous authors.
